Former patient at Madonna in Lincoln set to compete in Paralympics

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A former Madonna Rehabilition Hospitals patient is headed to the Paralympic Games.

Jeromie Meyer suffered a spinal cord injury 17 years ago, when he was 10.

He was struck by a drunken driver while riding his bicycle.

Now he’s set to represent the United States in the Paralympics in Paris, starting Aug. 28.

“Going from a little kid of, like, me idolizing and admiring the national team members back then to now kind of being that individual for kids is pretty amazing.,” he said.

Meyer spent 46 days doing physical rehab at Lincoln’s own Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital.

It was at Madonna where the staff introduced him to wheelchair basketball.

Meyer said the Paralympics may be the biggest moment of his life, and he thanked the Madonna staff for putting him on this trajectory all those years ago.
