Former Seward Mayor Roger Glawatz, who spent 36 years in city government, dies at 81
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Former Seward Mayor Roger Glawatz has died, the city announced Tuesday.
Glawatz, 81, died Saturday at an assisted living facility in Lincoln, according to his obituary.
He served a total of 15 years as mayor and 15 years on the city council.
Glawatz served on the Seward Planning Commission from 1974 to 1980, when he joined the city council.
He spent the entire decade on the council before ascending to the mayor’s office in 1991.
In 1994, he returned to the city council, and in 1998, he became mayor once again.
He would hold that post until 2010.
“Roger served in numerous other ways to help grow our community,” the city said on Facebook. “Our hearts go out to Roger’s family and friends.”
Glawatz is survived by his wife, two sons and a granddaughter.
His visitation is scheduled for 2 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Zabka-Perdue Funeral Home in Seward.
Glawatz’s funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. John Lutheran Church in Seward.
