Former western Nebraska sheriff accused of stealing agency gun

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Nebraska State Patrol arrested a former Dundy County sheriff on Friday after a stolen gun investigation.
The Dundy County Sheriff’s Office found that four handguns were missing during an inventory check, the patrol said.
Early Friday morning, investigators served a search warrant at 42-year-old Clinton Smith’s home and found one of the guns.
He was arrested on suspicion of possessing a stolen firearm.

Smith was recalled in November after he failed to earn law enforcement certification, Nebraska Public Media reported.
