Four children under 4 found in filthy conditions, Grand Island Police say

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Nebraska authorities say they’ve launched a child abuse investigation after four kids were found in an unsafe and unsanitary apartment.

According to the Grand Island Police Department, officers could smell a foul odor coming from Daniel Fontaine and Amanda Wolfe as soon as they arrived.

Once inside, officers determined that the children were being cruelly confined in car seats, strollers and playpens.

They said the filthy conditions were causing diaper rashes, sores and bug bites.

Officers also said the children were deprived of necessary food, clothing and care.

The oldest child is 3, while the youngest was just born.

GIPD said Fontaine and Wolfe were previously warned that their living environment was dangerous.

They were arrested on suspicion of four counts of intentional child abuse.

Fontaine is also accused of refusing to follow police orders, making threats and kicking a door into officers.

He’s facing additional charges of resisting arrest and obstructing a peace officer.

The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services is caring for the kids.
