Four first half turnovers power Lincoln East past Kearney
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Lincoln East football team extended its winning streak to four games Friday night, beating Kearney 17-10 at Seacrest Field.
The Spartans forced four turnovers in the first half, getting two interceptions and two fumble recoveries from their defense.
Lincoln East got on the board first, getting a 30-yard field goal from junior kicker Reid Meves.
A few drives later, Dominic Velazquez got an interception for the Spartans, setting the offense up in the red zone.
But Kearney’s defense would respond.
Quarterback Turner Wilkie threw an interception in the end zone to give the ball back to the Bearcats.
The defensive trend continued in the second quarter with an interception from Caleb Wilcox.
A fumble from Kearney’s Levi Pofahl was recovered by Elijah Gutz, but Lincoln East’s offense would stall out again.
Kearney finally got on the board thanks to a 42-yard field goal to make the score 3-3 at halftime.
With the win, the Spartans move to 4-1 on the season.
Lincoln East will look to continue its winning streak against Millard North on Friday.
