Friday becomes one of the coldest days of this week so far

Much of southeast and eastern Nebraska seeing some beneficial rain over the past couple of days may have you wondering… where are we at now? Through almost three full weeks of April, we have only seen about 0.41″ in Lincoln. Normally for the entire month, we will see 2.69″. And normally through the month of April, we see almost 6″ of precipitation.

Both March and April look to be under-performing, but there are more rain chances coming up soon.

Precip So Far

As for precipitation on Friday, most of the potential exists for our neighbors to the north and east, along the South Dakota border. Flurries, with some light rain mixing in, are possible through the afternoon with no accumulation really expected. As for southeast Nebraska, more clouds will be rolling in from the north by this afternoon.

Jb Stormcast Am

Along with the cloud cover, northwest winds will be working to pool in colder air for some time. Trends keep us colder than normal through a good portion of next week, too. Winds will be gusting upwards of 30-40 mph through Friday, with strong gusts still possible heading late into the evening.

Jess Model Wind

With many of these conditions working against us, we’ll see our coldest highs of the week so far by Friday afternoon. Areas that experience more cloud cover earlier on will struggle to see the 50s, while most of us will try to make it into the middle 50s. For Lincoln, that’s over 10° short for where we should be.

Dma Today High

With the countdown for the Spring Game now just hours away, it’ll have a chilly feel to it. Lows on Saturday morning will be close to freezing if not a few degrees below, and winds will still be out of the northwest.

Freeze Warning

So, when thinking about the inside of Memorial Stadium, the wind will make the day feel a lot colder.

Then by Sunday morning, we could see record-breaking lows in the lower 20s. Several locations could see these records, so we will be on the watch for that.

Weekend Fcst

Many rain chances are in the near future, with more rainy days than dry days in our 10-day outlook. Crossing our fingers for some good rain once more!
