Friends and Family Remember Megan Churchill

Friends and family gathered Friday night to remember the life of Megan Churchill.

Almost two years ago, Megan was killed in a car accident.  Ricky Turco, who was the driver, crashed into a tree. Megan died a few days later.

For those closest to Megan, it's hard to believe that she died almost two years ago from this car accident.

“It's a struggle everyday,” said Alisa Aohles, Megan's mother.  “They say time eases pain but its still there.”

With the passing of time, one thing Megan's best friend Patience didn't want was for her memory to fade.

“We'd just talk about anything.  It didn't have to be important, so I miss that the most because she was my best friend,” said Patience Johnson.  “I could say anything to her and not worry about it.”

Patience organized a campout to help raise money in Megan's honor.  This year, it'll go to help four-year-old Marshall DeBoer who has cancer.  Helping someone else in need is something Patience knows Megan would want.

“I think she's probably watching down on us and thinking that's really great because she'd probably want to be out here helping out,” she said.  “That's who she is, so I think she'd want to be here.”

And while they can't bring Megan back, they can keep her alive in their hearts and in their memories.

“Everyday she gives me strength,” said Aohles.  “I talk to her like she's still here, and I know she can hear me and I know she answers my prayers.”

There's a number of ways to donate.  You can stop by the campout on 926 North 8th Street, it's going on all weekend long, or you can give them a call at 402-805-9433.

There's also some gift certificates and prizes you can win.  All the money goes to help a Marshal DeBoer, who is battling cancer.
