Frigid first day back from holiday break; whiplash this week
After some colder days to end November, our average (highs and lows averaged) temperature for the fall season dropped. Lincoln finished its fourth warmest fall behind some warmer years a while back.
Now with December upon us, we enter the meteorological winter months spanning December through February. The coldest month tends to be January.
Meanwhile, the snowiest month on average tends to be February.
And we start to gain more daylight after the winter solstice on December 21st. By the end of the month, sunsets will be getting later and later. However, our average temperatures get a lot colder as well by then with those shortest days of the year.
Talking specifically about this week, we’ll need to buckle in for bigger temperature swings. More weather whiplash is on the way with a warm Wednesday before a sharp drop again Thursday.
Yet even talking about just today, it’ll be a frigid one! This isn’t the kind of welcome you want, coming back from holiday break.
More flurries are possible east of Lincoln early Monday, but the upcoming week looks fairly dry. If you’re now looking for a good time to put up Christmas lights, next weekend is looking warmer and closer to 50!
