Frost says Maurice Washington will be limited participant at Husker practices; will let legal process play out

Nebraska Football Coach Scott Frost commented on the status of a Husker player facing criminal charges during a press conference Tuesday afternoon.

Running back Maurice Washington faces felony child porn and misdemeanor revenge porn charges stemming from an incident in California where he allegedly sent his ex-girlfriend video of her being sexually assaulted.

Frost said at this time Washington will be a limited participant in the team’s spring practices.

In the meantime, Frost is focused on keeping Washington’s routine as normal as possible.

“He’s got a lot of other things to worry about,” Frost said.

Coach Frost says he plans to let the legal process play out before taking any further action, and that he’s “disappointed” any time UNL or the Husker program is viewed in a negative light.

Frost said he and others in the program knew very little of the details surrounding Washington’s case when they were made aware of it last fall, reiterating what the Athletic Department said in a statement last month.

The University was contacted by an investigator from the Nebraska Attorney General’s Office in September.

University officials said they were made aware at that time that Washington was wanted for questioning, but the details of the case were not revealed until news reports began to surface months later.

“I don’t think anybody could have done anything differently last fall,” Frost said Tuesday.

Frost said that any decision on Washington’s status with the program will not be made solely by him.

“We hope to get a lot more clarity soon,” he said.
