Full football forecast on tap; Storms later Saturday
This forecast is a fun one! With rain early Friday and clear skies for football, couldn’t ask for better weather to end the week. Overnight, rain favored Lincoln with almost 0.2″ falling at the airport. Not everyone saw much, or any, from this round.
But that isn’t the only chance to pick up some rain in the near future.
We are done with the rain for the rest of Friday, though. Clearing once the rain moved southeast will leave us with plenty of sunshine. The smoke will still be apparent, too, but air quality has improved to the “Moderate” category for Lincoln as of Friday morning. The Air Quality Alert is in effect through 3 p.m. Friday.
Channel 8’s Game of the Week features Lincoln Southwest vs. Lincoln East for an in-town matchup at Seacrest Field. By kickoff, temperatures should be *just right* for all football games Friday night.
High school football isn’t the only forecast we’ve got for you. If you’ve got plans to head to Boulder for the Colorado game, the Huskers will have great weather out west, too. For tailgating, temperatures should be in the lower 70s just before the game, with 80s expected by kickoff.
Back here at home, we’ll have similar conditions with mostly sunny skies to start the weekend. A cold front eventually is set to spark storms later on Saturday, with showers/storms lingering for us through Sunday.
Central Nebraska will see these storms fire up first, with storms potentially being strong to severe at this point. As this all progresses east, the severe threat will diminish for many to get the chance to pick up more rain through the rest of the weekend and into early next week.
The Storm Prediction Center has much of central Nebraska in a Marginal (Level 1 of 5) risk for storms to potentially be borderline severe (about 60 mph winds, and quarter-sized hail) as this unfolds Saturday evening.
Temperatures continue to look cooler especially by Monday, with highs generally in the 70s for some time! Some might argue, “It’s about time!”
