Fundraiser for K9 killed in the York tragedy surpasses its goal

More than $15,000 has been donated and now organizers are setting a new goal

YORK, Neb. (KLKN) — A GoFundMe aimed at raising money for the York County Sheriff’s Office following the tragic death of its K9 this week, has surpassed its original goal.

Just a day since its launch, people have donated more than $15,000.  The goal has now been raised to $17,000.

Nitro was killed earlier this week after a patrol vehicle was stolen and used to crash into another car, slamming both into a train.

Two people also died including the suspect who stole the patrol vehicle, as well as a beloved Hampton teacher who many in the community are planning to pay tribute to in a memorial this week.

The service for Kyle Ediger begins at 10:30 tomorrow morning at the United Methodist Church in Aurora.

Visitation goes from 4 – 7 p.m.
