YORK, Neb. (KLKN) – Over $12,000 has been raised for the police K9 Nitro after being killed in the line of duty yesterday.

York Adopt-A-Pet started a GoFundMe to support the York County Sheriff’s Department.

Nitro died after investigators say a man stole a K9 patrol vehicle and crashed it into another car, slamming both into a train.

York Adopt-A-Pet wrote, “We know that Nitro can’t be replaced” and set a goal of $15,000.  That money will be going to the Sheriff’s Department for a new K9.

Nitro was purchased with a donation from the Howe family in memory of Deputy Tony Howe and his police K9.
