Funeral service announced for fallen Nebraska state trooper

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The funeral for a Nebraska state trooper who died in the line of duty has been set for next week.

Trooper Kyle McAcy’s service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, at Liberty First Credit Union Arena in Ralston.

McAcy, 31, was killed Monday in a crash on Interstate 80.

He was responding to a crash involving a Nebraska Department of Transportation snowplow, according to the Nebraska State Patrol.

McAcy asked the driver to move the snowplow, but the snowplow backed up and hit him.

Other troopers and bystanders tried to save him, but he died on scene.

The patrol said the public is welcome at the funeral.

Before the service, there will be a law enforcement procession, and people are encouraged to line the route to pay their respects. The route will be announced later.

Gov. Jim Pillen has ordered flags to be flown at half-staff the day of the funeral.

Nebraskans can also visit McAcy’s cruiser, which is parked outside of the patrol’s Troop A headquarters near 108th and L streets in Omaha.
