Gabe Swansen’s 6 RBIs lead Nebraska to emotional victory over No. 16 Vanderbilt

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Nebraska baseball’s Gabe Swansen carried the Huskers to their first win of the season on Saturday night.

Swansen went 3-for-4 with six RBIs to help No. 24 Nebraska defeat No. 16 Vanderbilt 6-4 in Scottsdale, Arizona.

It was an emotional win for the Huskers, as long-time Nebraska broadcaster Greg Sharpe had died after a battle with pancreatic cancer on Friday.

In a post-game interview, Swansen said the team was playing “for something a little extra special.”

“Over my four years, I got to know Greg,” Swansen said.  “Kinda was able to build that connection and see how loved and important he was to the Nebraska community, so I think that gave us a little extra chip on our shoulder today.”

Nebraska has another game in the MLB Desert Invitational on Sunday night against San Diego State.  First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
