Game and Parks investigating grass fire at southwest Nebraska lake

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Authorities are investigating a grass fire that closed portions of Red Willow Reservoir State Recreation Area on Saturday.

The Frontier County Sheriff’s Office said Monday that it and the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission are asking the public for information about a violation of the campfire ban.

According to officials, the fire burned almost 85 acres near Hugh Butler Lake.

The fire was reported around 12:40 p.m. Saturday and was contained to the southwest side of the dam. No structures were damaged.

According to officials, the south lookout and Red Willow campgrounds will remain closed for camping and hiking until further notice.
