Gas leak leads to evacuation of Lincoln school
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A Catholic school in Lincoln was evacuated Tuesday afternoon after a gas leak.
Lincoln Fire & Rescue said the leak happened near St. Teresa Catholic School at 36th and J streets.
A maintenance worker tried to remove a natural gas line they thought was old, an LFR spokeswoman said. But it turned out the line was still active.
A user of the NOW Local News App shared video from the scene and said he could smell the gas.
Everyone was safely evacuated from the school, LFR said.
Black Hills Energy responded and shut off the gas line.
Part of 36th Street was closed while crews worked.
