Georgia man accused of threatening Sens. Deb Fischer, Ted Cruz

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A 25-year-old Georgia man is accused of threatening two threatening two Republican senators, including one from Nebraska.

Robert Davis Forney was arraigned in federal court Monday on charges of communicating threats in interstate commerce.

Prosecutors said on Jan. 9, Forney left two voicemails with the office of Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, threatening sexual violence against him and his family.

The next day, authorities said he called the office of Sen. Deb Fischer of Nebraska and left a voicemail threatening her with sexual violence, too.

The case is in federal court in the Northern District of Georgia.

“Threatening our elected officials and their families is an act of violence that undermines our entire democracy,” U.S. Attorney Theodore Hertzberg said.  “Political discourse and disagreements never justify resorting to vile attacks against our nation’s leaders.”
