GIPD: Three officers placed on leave following a fatal shooting

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KLKN) — The Grand Island Police Department (GIPD) has released a statement “in the interest of community transparency” that three officers involved in a fatal shooting have been placed on administrative leave.

Officers Ryan Todd, Derek Miller, and Michelle Johnston took part in the Tuesday, Aug. 11th fatal shooting of an armed subject at 115 E. 5th Street in Grand Island. At this time, GiPD say they have no reason to suspect any wrongdoing, but the independent and internal investigations are still under way; and administrative leave also helps the officers recover.

GIPD said they “ask for the public’s continued patience” as the continue the investigation and that “we will not offer speculation as to individual officer’s rolls in this incident” until all findings are finalized.
