Giraffe calf born at Lincoln Children’s Zoo

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Lincoln Children’s Zoo announced the birth of a giraffe on Friday.

The male calf was born on Nov. 3 to mom, Allie, and dad, Joey.

Zoo officials said the calf stood within the first hour of birth and measured just under 6 feet tall and 130 pounds.

The calf’s name will be announced at a later date.

“Becoming a mother did not come naturally to Allie with her first calf in 2022, and the Zoo team stepped in to successfully help hand-raise the calf. This second time around, Allie has been nothing but an attentive and doting mother,” said Evan Killeen, CEO of the Lincoln Children’s Zoo. “We have an exceptional animal care team and an on-site veterinarian, so our team is always prepared for any situation that may arise.”

People can meet the giraffe calf starting on Sunday at 10 a.m. at the indoor giraffe barn.
