‘Go Big Fred’ is in full effect

Fred Hoiberg was just hired on Saturday but a lot of people had already anticipated his arrival.
“It kind of leaked out earlier that he was going to be our coach but everybody was super big into it and I’ve heard good things when he was at Iowa State so we are all really excited about it,” said UNL Student, Parker Williams.
A local huskers store ordered t-shirts a week before the hiring.
“We decided to make a leap of faith and hoped the University would make a great hire and a great coach,” said Husker Headquarters, Blaine Braziel.
Braziel says they do not sell other Hoiberg items but has had several people ask about whether or not he is selling the ‘Hoiberg for Mayor’ signs around Lincoln.

A student on the UNL East Campus says they have had two signs in front of their farmhouse before the hiring as well.
“I think they are funny, especially when you drive by and you see the actually mayor signs,” said Williams.
You can spot the ‘Hoiberg for Mayor’ signs in different locations around Lincoln with heavy traffic.
“It’s a little weird with Tim Miles and how they got rid of him kind of before he announced that he was done with his term but just to see the way people react and that everyone is excited for Hoiberg and myself not being a Nebraska fan first, it’s cool to see the town get behind it,” said Travis Loudner.
For the fans who were right about predicting Hoiberg’s hire, they are now even more excited that it’s official.
“He’s a great coach and he is going to bring a lot of great things to Nebraska basketball and I know he has some local connections so yeah, we are very excited,” Braziel said.
“Fred did good things at Iowa State, he was pretty good at the Bulls and I think coming back to a college town he is in charge of who is coming to his team, I think he will have great success here,” Loudner said.
