Going Green for Big Red: tailgate recycling

As many Huskers fans may know, UNL likes to keep the ground clear of garbage on those active game days.
“Green bags, I think that’s all part of the university system,” tailgater and Huskers fan, Steve Gottsch said.
It’s part of a program called “Go Green For Big Red.”
“when we pull into the lot here they hand us a green bag as we come in, to recycle, then if you want more than one, they’re more than willing to give you extra if you need it too,” Gottsch said.
The program has become familiar to many tailgaters.
“We just get accustomed to doing it and it’s been this way for a number of years and that’s what we do,” Gottsch said.
Jeff Klein has his own garbage company and says the clean up success the university does here is an inspiration to his own.
“It’s definitely good for the environment. It’s something that we all have to do, anymore. And we offer recycling service, as well as garbage, so yeah, it’s a good thing,” Alley-Cat Disposal owner, Jeff Klein said.
As representatives of the Huskers and to keep their Nebraska community clean, they accept the challenge of going green to “Go Big Red.”
“I think it’s just a personal responsibility that we all have to recycle and help the environment and keep things out of the landfills, and there’s a lot of trash, so to speak, that’s generated at these games, so I think it’s a responsible move by our part to separate that out and recycle as much as we can,” Gottsch said.
