‘Go rest high on that mountain’: Fallen officer remembered at Lincoln funeral

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Fallen Ceresco Police Officer Ross Bartlett was remembered Friday at a funeral in Lincoln.

The service was held at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church at 84th Street and Pioneers Boulevard.

Several law enforcement agencies were in attendance to support Bartlett and his family and friends.

Bartlett, 54, was killed last week while making a traffic stop on Highway 77.

He served with Ceresco Police and the Ceresco Volunteer Fire Department, while being a full-time investigator with the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services.

Nebraska State Patrol Chaplain Mark Borchardt spoke about the many different roles that Bartlett took and his impact on so many people.

“Ross was a husband, father, grandfather, friend, investigator, police officer, fireman and so much more,” he said.

Erinn Criner with the corrections department said Bartlett poured his personal time into forming connections with those he worked with.

“Last week, I stopped in to chat with Ross,” she said. “I had a quick question for him about the people he had recruited to work in our agency. In true Ross form, he told me all kinds of stories about what he did to recruit these folks to come to Nebraska.”

The ceremony included a 21-gun salute, taps and the traditional sounding of a bell to mark the end of Bartlett’s service as a volunteer firefighter.

After the service, his body was escorted from the church to Roper & Sons Funeral Home at 44th and O Streets.

“To the Bartlett family, on behalf of our community, state, and country, thank you,” Criner said. “Ross, go rest high on that mountain, your work here is done.”
