Going back above normal for the foreseeable future
A comfortable start to Wednesday as temperatures dropped to the middle 60°s. This will likely be the coolest morning over the next week and a half, if not longer.
Clouds Wednesday morning will dissipate, turning skies mainly sunny through the day. Temperatures will be several degrees warmer than Tuesday. Highs will be in the lower 90°s. Lincoln will climb above normal (90°), topping out at 91° during the afternoon.
This starts an overall trend of warmer temperatures and climbing humidity. In the near-term, temperatures will peak Friday in the middle to upper 90°s. Dew points will be in the upper 60°s to near 70° Friday sending the heat index in to the lower to middle 100°s.
While there will a slight “cool down” for the weekend – temperatures top out in the lower 90°s – long range computer models suggest a cold front will approach southeast Nebraska early next week. Temperatures will likely surge to 100°, if not higher, Tuesday afternoon. With low-level moisture pooling ahead of the front, the heat index will likely top 105°.
Overnight computer models are suggesting a slight drop in temperatures, and humidity, behind the cold front next week. Dew point temperatures would drop in to the 40°s and 50°s Wednesday and Thursday. However, it will remain very warm with highs in the middle 90°s.
