Going warmer Thursday; Heat index nears 100°
Sunglasses, sunscreen, and shade will be needed often over the next week to two weeks. Temperatures go above normal today (90° in Lincoln) and remain that way for the entire 10 Day Outlook.
Skies will clear out later this morning. Temperatures will climb in to the middle 90°s to 100° (highest temperatures will be in the Tri-Cities and west). Combined with the amount of low-level moisture, the heat index will peak around 100° for nearly all of southeast Nebraska.
Another round of showers and thunderstorms will be possible late Thursday through Friday morning. I am bracketing the hours between 10 p.m. Thursday and 6 a.m. Friday for the best opportunity.
There will one more day with a chance for showers and thunderstorms and that is Saturday. Widely scattered showers and thunderstorms could develop during the peak heating of the day. The amount of rain to fall looks meager at best. Computer models suggest only a few hundredths of an inch of rain for any given location Saturday.
After Saturday’s opportunity for rain, it looks very dry for next week. Temperatures will jump in to the upper 90°s to lower 100°s Tuesday through next weekend.
