Goodwill collects electronics from Lincoln residents to be recycled
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Goodwill held an electronics drive Saturday where people could bring in their used devices.
This is the 7th year Goodwill has done the drive at it’s Vine Street location, which collects donations of phones, computers, office equipment, and small appliances.
Alia Hurst, a donations acquisitions specialist, said the electronics collected will either be resold at Goodwill, refurbished or responsibly recycled.
She said it’s better for the environment to recycle electronics.
“E-waste is increasing every year,” Hurst said. “A lot of these items you see here, people don’t know you can recycle them, so just giving them an opportunity to is really important, and just amplifying that sustainable message is really important as well. ”
The drive is held every year in January on National Technology Day, to help residents declutter after the holidays.
Officials also say revenue from the donations also goes toward creating employment opportunities for the Lincoln community.
If you missed your chance Saturday, you can stop by Goodwill stores with donations.
