Gorgeous, very warm day Wednesday; scattered rain across Nebraska later

This morning will be one of the last for a while that we have to worry about areas refreezing/frost overnight. Temperatures to start Wednesday have been in the upper 20s in Lincoln, with patchy fog especially over northeast Nebraska and southwest Iowa.

We’ll warm up quite a bit through the morning, as an upper-level ridge becomes directly overhead. Winds will continue to be light and out of the southwest.

That will promote more snow melt especially for those still reporting about 2-3″ of snow depth. Highs will be in the upper 50s and 60s across the state! Wouldn’t take much arguing to say this is a top-10 day of 2024 so far.

Stormcast State Temp

This warm up means warmer mornings with cloud cover increasing. We’ll be warm enough that record warm morning lows will be in jeopardy.

4 Day Low Temps

Wednesday will be the warmest day of the week, though. With more clouds on Thursday and Friday as a system develops from over the Rockies onto the Plains, we’ll be slightly cooler to end the work week.

Here’s an early look at that system that develops to our south. It will bring rain up into south-central Nebraska first, favoring eastern Nebraska by Saturday afternoon and most of Saturday. Widespread rain continues into early Sunday before most of it wraps up by Sunday afternoon/evening.

This is a look a longer-range model, with more details becoming clearer about timing and placement as we get closer to this event. For now, enjoy the 60s and sun for today!
