Gov. Jim Pillen signs executive order supporting Trump’s immigration policy

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Gov. Jim Pillen signed an executive order Friday requiring state agencies to cooperate with the federal government on immigration enforcement.

The order outlines actions to be taken by state agencies to execute the executive orders issued by President Donald Trump on Monday.

“This document demonstrates Nebraska’s alignment with the new federal immigration policy and provides guidance to state agencies for carrying out provisions contained in the President’s recently issued executive orders,” said Gov. Pillen.

Under the executive order, if the Nebraska State Patrol encounters someone during an investigation who they think is in the country illegally, they will be required to detain them until they can be transferred to federal custody.

Executive Order No. 25-01

The American Civil Liberties Union of Nebraska issued a statement condemning the order as “disgraceful.”

“If officials cross legal lines to follow this order, we will see them in court,” the ACLU said in a statement.

State agencies have until May 31 to meet the requirements of the governor’s executive order.
