Gov. Pillen promotes preparedness for severe weather

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Gov. Jim Pillen and weather experts held a press conference Monday afternoon, discussing the importance of being prepared.
A winter storm is moving through Nebraska, but warmer temperatures are just around the corner.
That signals the potential for severe weather in the near future.
Speakers at the press conference shared stories of how awareness has saved lives during severe weather in Nebraska.
“If you’ve been in Nebraska your whole life, or maybe just a week, it’s not a matter of if severe weather will affect you; it’s a matter of when,” said Rebecca Kern, a warning coordination meteorologist with the National Weather Service.
During the press conference, Pillen recognized winning posters made by third graders from across the state highlighting the importance of severe weather awareness.
Gov. Pillen officially made this Monday through Friday Severe Weather Awareness Week.
