A grain bin collapsed Wednesday evening in Roca around 8:30 at the Co-Op off of Main street

There are no reports of any injuries. The Sheriff’s Office says the grain elevator collapsed and fell on some power lines and crews were on scene working to repair them.

Officials say grain had started leaking out of the bin around noon Wednesday so they barricaded off the area. Officers say the pressure in the bin may have been what caused it to collapse.

Hickman Fire & Rescue workers used the Nebraska State Patrol helicopter to scan the area with infrared to make sure no is trapped in or around the collapse.

“The primary concern was making sure nobody was in underneath the grain under the collapse. All employees have been accounted for and all the kids in the immediate area have been accounted for,” Chief Bruce Messenger, Hickman Fire and Rescue, said.

Officials were concerned the grain bin to the north could collapse as well, but is has been deemed safe. Officers barricaded the gravel road off and crews expect clean up will take around a week.  Sheriff’s estimate around $650,000 in damage.
