Grand Island City Council weighs exemption to indoor smoking ban
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — At Wednesday’s meeting, the Grand Island City Council will consider adding an exemption from the Nebraska Clean Indoor Air Act.
Some residents are suggesting the change so a cigar lounge can open in town.
The act eliminated smoking and vaping in enclosed indoor work facilities and public spaces.
In 2015, state policy changed to allow indoor smoking in tobacco retail outlets.
But Grand Island never updated their city code to reflect the change, making cigar lounges illegal until the policy is amended.
The city council is meeting at 7 p.m.
