Grand Island man linked to overdose sentenced to nine years in prison

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A Grand Island man will spend nearly a decade behind bars for gun and drug charges, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.
Mohamed Gamar Ahmed, 20, was sentenced Tuesday to four years in prison for possession of cocaine and fentanyl with intent to distribute.
He was also ordered to serve a consecutive five-year prison sentence for possessing firearms in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.
On March 28, 2022, Grand Island Police officers were sent to a home, where they found an unconscious girl.
She was taken to a hospital and revived with Narcan, the attorney’s office said.
A boy, who was at the home when police arrived, told officers he bought a blue pill from Ahmed.
After taking the pill, which they thought was Percocet, the girl began showing signs of an overdose, according to the attorney’s office.
Officers got a search warrant for Ahmed’s apartment and found handguns, digital scales, plastic bags and ammo.
The attorney’s office said officers also seized 1.2 pounds of marijuana, THC vape pens, 31 grams of cocaine and about 30 suspected Percocet pills.
The Nebraska State Patrol’s crime lab found that those pills contained fentanyl, the attorney’s office said.
After his prison sentence, Ahmed will serve a five-year term of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system.
