LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A Grand Island man was sentenced Thursday after dodging court appearances for nine years.

Jose Luis Deleon, 65, was charged for two counts of distribution of methamphetamine. He got 4½ years in a federal prison with a three-year term of supervised release.

In May 2014, a confidential informant working with the Central Nebraska Drug and Safe Streets Task Force arranged to purchase meth from Deleon.

The two met, and the informant gave Deleon money for 23 grams of meth.

Later that month, the same informant arranged to buy another ounce of meth for $1,100 from Deleon. They met again, and Deleon made the exchange.

Deleon was set for an entry of plea in July 2015. But he failed to appear for that hearing — and never appeared in court until he was arrested in Houston in June.
