Grand Island man sentenced for beating death

Jeremy Grant

A 22-year-old Grand Island man who killed his mother's boyfriend has been given 75-to-80 years in prison.

Jeremy Grant was originally charged with first-degree murder in the slaying of Pablo Rodriguez on Feb. 24, 2010. In February he pleaded no contest to second-degree murder. Grant was sentenced Tuesday in Hall County District Court. Authorities say Grant stabbed Rodriguez and used a stove burner grate to beat him to death after an argument.

Grant's attorney says his client “snapped'' that night. Grant's mother, Virginia Grant, was charged with being an accessory to a felony. She pleaded no contest to the charge and was sentenced last September to 18-to-24 months in prison.
