LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A Grand Island police officer was arrested over the weekend on suspicion of DUI, officials said Wednesday.

Grand Island Police Chief Kevin Denney released a statement regarding the arrest of the officer, who has not been identified.

“Over the weekend, we did have one of our GIPD officers arrested for suspicion of DUI.  The DUI investigation is being performed by the Nebraska State Patrol.  The officer in question is currently on administrative leave pending an internal investigation.  The police department takes these allegations seriously, and it is an unfortunate situation.  I remind you the officer, like everyone else, is entitled to their rights under the law,” Denney said in the statement.

City officials said there will be no further comment from Denny or any other staff at the police department.

An investigation is ongoing.
