Grand Island renters may struggle due to a technicality
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Due to a technicality, some Grand Island renters could end up paying much more.
Rental property owners said they tried to protest higher assessed values on their properties, but the paperwork was rejected.
A property manager said that some of his units’ assessments jumped by $1,127,605 and that when he went to protest it, he missed something on the form.
The mistake could ultimately mean higher taxes, which Grand Island property owners will pass down to renters, many of whom live paycheck to paycheck.
The deputy Hall County assessor said they’re doing what the law requires, but county officials vowed to work to improve procedures in the future.
