Grand Island teenager arrested after lengthy pursuit in Lancaster County

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A teenager from Grand Island was arrested early Friday morning after a lengthy chase in western Lancaster County.

Just after 2:30 a.m., a trooper with the Nebraska State Patrol saw a Toyota Rav4 speeding with no license plate on West O Street in Lincoln.

The trooper tried to pull the car over, but the 18-year-old male sped off and prompted a pursuit, the state patrol said.

After five minutes — near Northwest 98th Street — the state patrol said the teen lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a ditch.

The teen then took off on foot into a wooded area nearby, according to the state patrol.

The Lincoln Police Department and the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office responded to help search for the suspect.

After searching for three hours, a trooper found the teenager and arrested him without further incident.

The teen was lodged in the Lancaster County Jail on suspicion of flight to avoid arrest, willful reckless driving, obstructing a peace officer, no operator’s license, leaving the scene of a crash and numerous traffic violations.
