Grass fire burns along I-80 east of Lincoln

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A grass fire broke out along Interstate 80 east of Lincoln on Monday afternoon.

It happened about 3 p.m. in the median near the Highway 6 interchange outside of Waverly.

Photos taken from the Nebraska Department of Transportation camera show smoke rising from a blackened patch of ground.

By 4 p.m., a Channel 8 reporter said all emergency crews had left the scene.

Much of Nebraska, including Lancaster County, is under a red flag warning.

The combination of strong winds, low humidity and warm temperatures make it easy for fires to spread.

This is a developing story. Checking with Channel 8 for the latest.
