Grass growth spurt: Lincolnites rev up their mowers during rainy spring
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Lincoln has seen major rainfall in the past couple weeks, and homeowners have had trouble keeping up with their grass.
One resident, Sage Williams, said it has been a struggle to keep up with her lawn with the daily rainfall.
But she does not see that as a negative.
“It is such a huge blessing that the sun is finally out, it’s finally dry enough to where I can actually get out and mow,” Williams said.

The rainfall is a major difference compared with last year.
In April 2023, Lincoln saw about half an inch of rain, but this April, the capital city received 3½ inches.
Lawn expert Jessica Jasnoch at Earl May Garden Center advises people to trim their lawns before they get too long and to get a leg up on the weeds.
“Now is a great time to treat weeds as a post-emergent form,” she said. “You don’t want to spray extra heavy knowing rain is coming ’cause you’ll just burn the tops off, and it won’t get absorbed into the roots then.”
Maintaining a height of 3 inches is best for healthy lawncare.
Make sure to sharpen mower blades as well and plan out your mowing schedule with more rain in the forecast.
