This morning the Lincoln Parks and Recreation and Mayor Beutler officially started the process of building a this project in Belmont to promote more outdoor activities.

"Belmont park is exactly what we believe all Lincoln parks should be a place that brings neighbors together to enjoy the outdoors and support healthy lifestyles," said Lynn Johnson the Director of Lincoln Parks and Recreation.

This project is to provide a space for the neighborhood to promote out door activities, and for an extended class room for Belmont elementary.

"It will also help our schools so that our students and their teachers can come out here as an extension of the class room and apply what their learning within the class room to a real life setting," said Kim Rosenthal the Principal of Belmont Elementary.

This is being built as a part of the streets alive program starting September 23rd, an event to promote outdoor activities. But the hope is this could have a lasting affect on the whole neighborhood.

"It has good effects no matter what neighborhood you’re talking about but I think it will have particularly good effects in the Belmont area," said Mayor Chris Beutler

While this project may not seem like a big deal, for the people in Belmont this means the world.

"The fact that the city of Lincoln is willing to support the Belmont neighborhood in Belmont school it has a huge impact on me as the principal at Belmont but also to our whole school," added Ronsenthal.

For the people who made the decisions about this project it was a no brainier.

"There are a variety of reasons for investing in Belmont starting with the fact that them is just a lot of kids here," added Mayor Beutler.

The ribbon cutting and the final end date for this project is scheduled to be on September 23rd.
