Habitat for Humanity comes to Lincoln to ‘Rock the Block’
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Habitat for Humanity descended upon a block in northeast Lincoln on Saturday to fix up some of the houses there.
Officials said the organization has been doing these “Rock the Block” events for about a decade in Omaha, but this is the first year it’s been in Lincoln.
Deanna Walz, development director for the Lincoln office, said seven homes were given makeovers on Morton Street.
“We are giving it a face lift,” she said. “Kind of beautifying it up a little bit, doing some minor repairs and landscaping and just having a great time.”
Walz said the response to the program has been great so far, and they plan on doing more events on other blocks around Lincoln.
“It’s just nice because a lot of our neighborhoods in Lincoln are maybe starting to get a little bit older,” she said. “It’s great for everybody to be able to come together to bring that sense of community to the neighborhood.”
