Hail costs in Nebraska total $212 million as insurance claims spike nationwide

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — As Nebraska braces for possible hail this Tuesday, recent data reveals there’s been a sharp spike in insurance claims involving hail damage across the country.

According to State Farm, Nebraska’s among the top states seeing a big increase.  The insurance company is reporting a $1 billion jump in hail claim costs nationwide.

Its data compares 2021 to 2022.  State Farm says there were nearly 45,000 additional hail claims last year.

The insurance company also reports inflation and supply chain issues are to blame for the spike in costs.

Overall, State Farm says the average claim increased by about $2,000 in 2022.

Breaking the numbers down by state, Minnesota leads the pack with $799 million in total costs.

That’s followed by Texas, Arkansas, Illinois and then Nebraska.  State Farm says hail costs here totaled $212 million last year alone.

The insurance company says the best thing you can do to prepare for these storms is call an agent in advance, to make sure you’re covered.
