Hairy hoops: Hundreds gather to watch donkey basketball in Seward

SEWARD, Neb. (KLKN) – Seward High School held an unusual event Friday night: donkey basketball.

It helped raise money for FFA and other student groups, as well as bringing the town an exciting event to witness.

Esten Johnsen, FFA vice president, said he was “shocked” to see so many people at the event.

Four hundred-fifty people bought tickets, and the bleachers were full.

“It’ll be a little nerve wracking, but I think we’ll make it through,” Johnsen said.

Each of these school groups had its own team riding donkeys and went head-to-head.

Most of the people had never ridden a donkey before.

The money from this event will help support travel expenses for each group’s meets and competitions.

Seward High hopes to host an event like this again, since this one was so exciting for the community.
