Halloween spiderwebs kill birds, butterflies and bees, Nebraska officials warn
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Nebraska wildlife officials are urging people to avoid using fake spiderwebs this Halloween, warning they could be deadly.
While they may be a fun way to make your house look extra spooky, Nebraska Wildlife Education says the decoration kills birds.
Officials add they’re strong enough to snare something as big as an owl, and they take a terrible toll on smaller wildlife like hummingbirds.
Monarch butterflies and bees are also killed by the popular decoration every fall.
That’s why experts recommend using fake spiderwebs inside of windows if you plan on putting them up.
