Hastings Police chief fired gun during skid loader attack, department says

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Hastings police chief is back on duty after using his weapon last week.

Chief Adam Story fired his gun Thursday night after a teenager rammed a skid loader into three patrol vehicles, according to the Hastings Police Department.

Capt. Raelee Van Winkle said the skid loader driver, a 15-year-old boy, was not hit by gunfire.

Story was placed on administrative leave but has since been cleared of any wrongdoing, Van Winkle said.

All three police vehicles were occupied when the teen hit them, police said.

One officer suffered a concussion. Two others had minor injuries.

The Nebraska State Patrol is handling the investigation.

It’s not clear what charges the 15-year-old will be facing.
