Hazy skies from Canadian wildfire smoke moving in Friday
Friday is expected to be our first day in Lincoln with above-average temperatures in about 11 days! That’s just shy of half of the days in May with cooler than normal temperatures.
While we’ll be seeing a lot of sunshine, that will get spoiled by more smoke moving in. The source of the smoke is more wildfires in Canada again.
There is a difference in the amount of smoke moving in higher in the atmosphere versus what we’ll experience down at the surface.
Most of the higher concentrations are expected to stay aloft (higher up) on Friday before mixing more down to the surface on Saturday (particularly by the evening hours below) for eastern Nebraska.
Saturday some spot showers and storms will be possible again, mainly just off to the west of Lincoln toward the Tri-Cities by the afternoon and early evening. Dry air will limit what precipitation truly makes it to the ground though.
This weekend is supposed to be a very warm one – great for pool trips with summer-like temperatures making a comeback.
Sunday is June 1st and the start of meteorological summer. Our sunsets by the end of the month will be just a bit after 9 o’clock. Average temperatures slightly warm through the month from beginning to end.
Severe potential is lurking with possible thunderstorms next week. Northwest Nebraska is still being monitored for a hail and wind threat on Monday, June 2nd.
Far southeast Nebraska could see all severe weather hazards with thunderstorms by Tuesday, June 3rd.
More information will be posted about Monday and Tuesday as we get closer and get a clearer picture of the forecast.
