Hazy sunshine and warm days ahead
Typically, we see our first freeze of the fall season in Lincoln around this point in October. We have yet to see those freezing temperatures, though. And they aren’t all that close in the extended forecast.
The latest we’ve ever been for the first freeze was November 7th, 1900.
Instead, temperatures have fallen to the mid/upper 40s and low 50s across southeast Nebraska Tuesday morning. High pressure has a firm grasp on our area at the moment, so winds will be light and out of the southwest with mostly sunny conditions today.
Temperatures across the state today will be pretty even across the board. Just about everyone can expect temperatures in the 80s that are above average by about 10 degrees or so.
Our sunny skies will be tainted by smoke in the higher levels of the atmosphere. The good news is this shouldn’t have impacts at the surface in eastern Nebraska again today.
Looking at the concentrations closer to the surface, eastern Nebraska will be on the lower end with more impacts possible again through the Panhandle.
We will remain quite warm through the end of the week. In fact, from Wednesday through Friday, Lincoln will come within a few degrees of daily record highs again.
- Wednesday, October 9: 90° in 1928
- Thursday, October 10: 91° in 1963
- Friday, October 11: 94° in 2015
And since September 1st, we’ve still been sitting at 0.20″ of rainfall in Lincoln. Omaha has only received 0.09″ in that same timeframe. Yet the forecast still looks rather dry over the next 10 days.
We also continue to track Hurricane Milton in the Gulf, with some of the latest in the video above.
