Health alert issued for lake near Beatrice

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Another southeast Nebraska lake is under a health alert for toxic algae.
On Thursday, the state warned of toxic blue-green algae in Rockford Lake, which is about 10 miles southeast of Beatrice.
Samples taken at the lake earlier this week found that levels of the toxin microcystin, which is released by some strains of algae, are above the safe threshold.
Swimming beaches are closed, and people are urged to avoid exposure to the water.
But recreational boating and fishing are allowed.
For the fourth straight week, a health alert is also in effect for Cub Creek Lake, about 10 miles northeast of Fairbury.
