Health department in central Nebraska reports first human case of West Nile

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A health department in central Nebraska has reported its first human case of West Nile virus.
The Central District Health Department — which covers Hall, Hamilton and Merrick counties — announced the case Wednesday.
Officials said most people with the virus have no or mild symptoms, usually a fever and a headache.
Less than 1% of infected people will have more serious symptoms, including muscle weakness, stiff neck, disorientation and convulsions.
Mosquito bites are the most common source of the virus in humans.
The health department said the virus does not spread from person to person.
