Health department reports rise in respiratory illnesses in Lancaster County

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department has reported an increase in respiratory illnesses.

Health officials said 233 COVID-19 cases were reported last week, which is an increase from 201 cases the previous week.

Flu is also increasing, with a positivity rate of 10.6% last week, compared with 5.6% the week prior.

RSV saw a slight decrease in positivity rate last week, at 10.2%, compared with 14.6% the previous week.

Officials are urging people to take everyday preventive actions:

  • Get vaccinated
  • If you are sick, stay home
  • Wash hands often
  • Cover coughs and sneezes
  • If you have COVID-like symptoms, wear a mask
  • Clean and disinfect surfaces

At-home COVID-19 test kits are still available in the main lobby of the health department during regular business hours. You can also find tests at all of the Lincoln City Libraries.
