Health official encourages vaccinations amid spike in respiratory illnesses in Lincoln

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department encourages vaccinations for residents as COVID-19, flu and RSV cases rise.

The health department reported 233 confirmed cases of COVID-19 last week, an increase from 201 cases from the previous week.

Pat Lopez, the department’s director, recommends taking a COVID test or wearing a mask when visiting family during the holidays.

“Please don’t go visit your loved ones in long-term care or at home if you’re having symptoms or even going around to large groups of people,” Lopez said.

The flu vaccine is recommended for everyone ages six months and older.  An RSV vaccine is also available for adults over the age of 60 and pregnant women.

More information on vaccines can be found on the health department’s website.
